Our Cozy Fall Getaway at Muskoka BeerSpa
There are some weekends that feel like a trip, and then there are the ones that feel like an actual reset.
Our stay at Muskoka BeerSpa was definitely the latter.
Tucked away on Clear Lake in The Muskoka Lakes, Ontario, Muskoka BeerSpa is essentially what happens when a cottage getaway, thermal spa and craft brewery have a very Canadian love child. And yes – It works!! Think cozy cabins surrounded by trees, hot pools, saunas, cold plunges, lake views, good food and absolutely nowhere you need to be.
Jasper and I headed up for a cozy fall escape, and it ended up being exactly the kind of weekend we wanted: slow, relaxing, a little indulgent and, because it was my favourite time of year - fall - it was just spooky enough.
Checking Into Our Muskoka Cabin
One of my favourite things about BeerSpa is that you don't necessarily have to leave at the end of your spa day.
We stayed at one of the cabins right on the property, which meant everything we wanted to do was just a short walk away. Muskoka BeerSpa has several different cabin options, from tiny Crash Cabins for two to larger two- and three-bedroom cabins for groups. Depending on the cabin, you can get features like queen beds, a wet bar, full-size fridge, smart TV and even in-room draught taps if you order a keg 24 hours in advance. Our cabin immediately gave us that cozy Muskoka feeling, and after settling in, we headed out to explore.
Between the trees, cabins and beautiful Clear Lake waterfront, the entire property feels like its own little escape. The lakefront might have been one of my favourite parts. There is something about being near the water in Muskoka in the fall that just makes you want to slow down.
Lunch at Clear Lake Brewing Co.
Obviously, you can't stay at something called BeerSpa and not work a brewery visit into the itinerary.
Clear Lake Brewing Co. is pretty much right next door and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner alongside beer brewed on-site, so we headed over for lunch before our afternoon at the spa.
Having food and drinks right there is also a HUGE perk if you're staying overnight. AND the food is honestly fantastic! Once we arrived, we really didn't have to worry about getting back in the car or figuring out where to go next.
And then it was time for the main event.
The Muskoka BeerSpa Experience
This isn't your traditional whisper-and-wear-a-white-robe kind of spa.
Muskoka BeerSpa describes itself as a social spa, and that's probably the best way to explain it. You can move between the different amenities at your own pace, hang out together, talk, laugh, grab a drink and actually make a day out of it. We spent the afternoon bouncing between the hot pools, saunas and cold plunges in the lake, and it was SO good.
The BeerSpa experience includes hot tubs, multiple saunas, a steam room, pool, cold plunge, relaxation areas and access to Clear Lake, although it is important to note that some amenities are seasonal. The pool and hot tubs typically operate from May through October, while saunas are available year-round for cabin guests. Muskoka BeerSpa
And yes, we did the cold plunge.
Was I thrilled about getting into freezing water? Absolutely not.
Did I feel incredible afterward? Also, yes.
One of the things I loved most was that there wasn't a schedule we had to follow. We weren't rushing from treatment to treatment or checking the time. We could sit in the hot pool until we wanted a sauna, head down toward the lake, cold plunge and then immediately question our life choices before warming back up again.
It felt much more like spending the day at an incredibly relaxing Muskoka cottage than going to a traditional spa.
Charcuterie + Practical Magic = The Perfect Fall Night
After an afternoon of spa-ing, we headed back to our cabin for arguably the most important part of the weekend.
Charcuterie.
Comfy clothes.
And Practical Magic.
Because if you're staying in a cozy cabin surrounded by trees during spooky season, there is really only one appropriate way to spend the evening.
It was simple, cozy and honestly one of my favourite parts of the entire stay. Sometimes the best part of getting away isn't packing your itinerary with things to do. It's creating enough space to actually enjoy doing nothing.
Would We Go Back to Muskoka BeerSpa?
Absolutely.
What I loved most about Muskoka BeerSpa is that it doesn't take itself too seriously.
You still get the relaxation and wellness aspect of a spa getaway, but it feels much more casual and social. You can cold plunge in the morning, have a beer with lunch, spend the afternoon in a hot tub and finish the night curled up in your cabin with snacks and a movie.
It would be such a fun option for a couples' getaway, girls' weekend, birthday trip or just an excuse to escape to Muskoka for a couple of days.
You can also visit BeerSpa without staying overnight. Seasonal day passes provide access to the spa amenities, while overnight guests get access throughout their stay, including their arrival and departure days. For us, staying overnight made the experience. There was no rushing home after the spa, no long drive at the end of the day and no real agenda once we arrived.
Just good food, hot pools, cold plunges, beautiful Muskoka scenery, charcuterie and a little witchy fall nostalgia.
Exactly what we needed.
And yes, we're already talking about going back.
